Music & Radio

The Music of Harlem is one of the main pillars of the neighborhood and has helped cement its place in history, and radio has done the same too. Some of the greatest musicians were and are still in Harlem, starting with Duke Ellington, William Strayhorn, Ira and George Gershwin, Billy Holiday, Tito Puente, Cecil Cruz, Hazel Scott, Count Basie, Adelaide Hall, and Oscar Hammerstein II to name a few. Then there some of the famous personalities that were on the radio like Ralph Cooper and Eddie Anderson who are also highlighted in lessons of their own.

Our reading comprehension lessons are developed to be applied on four different levels, ranging from K-12th grades. Each online reading lesson is designed to focus on a multicultural focus of Harlem and is aligned with current common core requirements.  The Harlem Music and Radio lessons are fun, engaging, and memorable so students actually have fun while they are learning.
