Reading Lessons – Harlem Roots main purpose is to teach students about the people, places, and events that had made Harlem one of the most fascinating neighbors in the world. Our reading lessons are on four levels:

Level 1 - Kindergarten & 1st grades (two-page reading and coloring worksheet)

Level 2 - 2nd and 3rd Grades - Reading lesson (200 -225 words)

Level 3 – 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th Grades - Reading lesson (350 - 375 words)

Level 4 – 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Grades - Reading lesson (500 – 525 words)

Lesson Description:

All the lessons are common core and Level 2, 3 & 4 have additional advance assignments for the students. Each lesson is designed to be informative, engaging, educational, and memorable.

These Reading Comprehension Passages and Questions for Guided Reading Levels are designed to help students learn to read carefully and to find evidence to support their answers to text-based questions.

The increasing complexity of these passages helps make differentiation efficient and effective. These passages are ideal for use during small group instruction, intervention lessons, close reading lessons, and fluency work and as assessments, as homework or as morning work.

Lesson Components:

Each lesson plan includes the following components: 

  • Puzzle

  • Fun Facts/Interesting Facts

  • Questions that include multiple-choice, true or false, fill-in-the-blanks, written response, etc
